10:00am – 5:00pm

Discovery Days is inspired by the discovery of Natural Bridge Caverns in 1960. It is a celebration of caving, exploration and discovery. Invite your family and friends to take part in this safe, hands-on caving experience, accompanied by an educational adventure.

VIP Lantern Tour – Join Natural Bridge Caverns’ Discoverer Orion Knox on a special VIP Lantern Tour led by Staff Geologist Brian Vauter. (Sat 9am only) Click here for tickets. Proceeds to benefit the Texas Cave Management Association.

CaveSim© – Take a 60ft crawl through a simulated cave passage and compete to see how many formations you can keep from touching. Tickets are $8.00 (first run) and $5.00 (extra runs).

Caver’s Squeezebox – Understand how cavers practice squeezing through tiny spaces in the caverns with this adjustable squeezebox. How small can you go?

Rappelling Tower – Learn the ropes about rappelling and ascending a 12ft tower.

Virtual Reality Cave Experiences – Go on a virtual flight through sections of Natural Bridge Caverns. One experience lets you remain seated, while the other allows you to walk around.

Meet the experts:

  • Texas Cave Management Association is the first organization in Texas dedicated to the preservation of caves and underground resources.
  • Bat Conservation International is an international organization working to conserve the world’s bats and their habitats through conservation, education and research efforts.
  • Bexar Grotto, a chapter of the National Speleological Society*, is committed to the protection of caves and cave conservation activities, including exploration, education, restoration, protection, and assisting government agencies and private landowners in developing management plans for caves and karst.
  • Bill Steele, sometimes referred to as “Caveman Bill,” is a Fellow Member of the National Speleological Society, a Fellow Member of The Explorers Club, and an Eagle Scout. He has explored more than 2,700 caves across North America and Asia, authored two books chronicling his expeditions, and taken more than 10,000 trips underground. Since the mid 1970s, Steele has co-led and participated in expeditions to Sistema Huautla in Oaxaca, Mexico – considered the deepest cavern system in the Western Hemisphere.
