As cicadas chirped along to the sound of a guitar, past and present Natural Bridge Caverns (NBC) employees gathered behind the visitor’s center to celebrate the site’s 60th anniversary and recount stories of their tenure at the caves.
Lloyd Lenz, a 92-year-old former NBC tour guide, was one of the first guides and ticket sellers prior to the visitor’s center existence.
Back then, Lenz sold tickets under a tented structure from an apple crate.
Lenz taught during the school year and held his tour guide position during the summer.
